An evening of bhajans and discourses
Last week the sanyasins from Bharat Sevashram Sangha held a program where there were some discourses from the scriptures, Arati, and singing of some bhajans to praise the Lord. It wasn’t much of a fanfare instead rather low key but the turnout was immense. The singer sang with a harmonium and doled out some usual renditions of “Hare Krsna Hare Rama”. He was accompanied by a mridangam player.
Personally out of all the drum family I love the feminine sounds of the mridangam……. much better than the tabla or the dholak or dhak. The artist played with a lot of gusto. I totally enjoyed the whole program. I didn’t get very good shots simply because it was too crowded and every time I’d click somebody would break into a vigorous dance……. too fast for me. I kinda salvaged these two from the out of focus ones.
This Pic was chosen as one of the spotlight pics in Friday My Town Shoot Out : theme Music.

have they shown the fat Indian wedding yet? It was screened in Auckland, i can imagine there was a lot of music then.
The colors and the music just set the mood. Loved this post.

Love the music added to bring it all to life!
I usually don’t like music added to a blog but in this case it was beautiful and added to the pictures. I could almost see the motion. Beautiful.
Lovely photos!
I love that first shot, and have unsuccessfully tried to duplicate this effect just with shutter speed. I never seem to get it right.
I wish there were a picture of a mridangam; I am well aware of the tabla, but unfamiliar with this instrument. I don’t hear it, or even the harmonium. But I would like to.
Magnificent photos, live must be quite a show, very interesting.
